Passion. Proactive. Inovative. Inspired. Motivated. Balanced. Dreams.
These are just a few words that came to mind when reading this quote.
Jay DeMerit.
One person that came to mind, after reading this quote.
Who is Jay, he is 26 year old soccer player in Europe. He was not given an opportunity to play in the MLS, here in the states. So he CREATED, an opportunity, in Europe. A venue that is not all that welcoming to americans. Meaning there is, typically, a greater chance to play here in the MLS first then to proceed to Europe.
Here’s the thing though, Jay is not only playing in Europe but he is playing in the Premiership Leauge. Jay is also responsible for helping getting his Watford club into the PL. That’s an opportunity. Jay scored, what many consider to be one of the most important goals for his Watford club in a match against Leeds United. This win gave his Watford club Premiership entrance.
Jay’s story is inpsiring.
Create opportunities for yourself, be driven by your Passions, by your dreams, be inovative where others are failing. Create opportunities and you will motivate other PEOPLE along your journey, by your PASSION.
Its addictive.

Why has the Seattle based caffeine giant corporate Starbucks been so successful of late? They spend far less on advertising then you might expect.
In fiscal 2005, Starbucks spent $87.7 million on advertising, which includes billboards, online advertising and signs at Safeco field. That’s about 1.4 percent of its 2005 revenues. For comparison, Coca-Cola spent $2.5 billion, and Nike spent $1.7 billion during their most recent fiscal years, each about 11 percent of revenues. Seattle Times, 10/12/06
I think Starbucks might be onto something. In the years to come we will experience further use of automation, computer based interaction. Yet, I think this will create a human interaction void that we will discover to be bigger than we had anticipated. This change is necessary in the business world. Starbucks, it seems, is anticipating that human interaction void. So, Starbucks has instead invested their monetary advertising funds into forging relationships with customers. They throw big parties, and invite everyone over. Selling coffee is not about coffee; it’s about the relationship you build day after day.
Free brew went to regular folks as well on March 15, when Starbucks hosted a nationwide coffee break, giving free coffee to customers who visited any U.S. store from 10 a.m. to noon that day.
“So much of the relationship with the company exists between you and that barista behind the bar,” said Brad Stevens, Starbucks’ top marketing executive. “We haven’t been able to conceive of a way for TV advertising to repeat that, to capture the heart and soul of the company.” Seattle Times, 10/12/06
The 3rd P, might actually be the first P.
Progression acts upon passion. When we are passionate about something we progress to the next beat in life. This sequence of passion and progression usually ends up affecting others. People.
Its rhythmic, songs share beats but not all songs are the same beats. We are all unique. Yet we share our passion and progression, in life, with each other. Pushing one another along.
We are after relationships with others. In business, in fun activities, we want to be linked with other People to experience something real.

I selected three words a few years back, which I believe lend in furthering myself as a human being. I refer to them as the 3p’s. I wrote about one of them the day, passion, a key to many elements in life. Another is progression. It’s what our bodies are linked to. According to wikipedia, Generally, successive chords in a chord progression share some notes, which provides harmonic and linear (voice leading) continuity to a passage. I am no musician, but it seems us humans are wired to be rhythmic.
Think about it for a second, we have forever been tought to follow a series of repeated events, in daily life. Some of us fall apart, if, our routines are interupted. If you missed breakfast or your daily morning coffee or workout, you find your self in the middle of the day asking, “Why does my day feel off?” You interupted your progression. Many of us do not do well with change, another interuption.
Progression also, I believe, goes much deeper than simple day to day events. It pushes us to move further in life, from one beat to another. We are all creating our very own and unique rhythmic songs. You can’t keep on playing the same note, we all need to progress from beat to beat. Do something new, add to your collective melting pot of experiences in order to progress to the next beat. Conciously, it takes effort to move forward…Passion. Progression…

We are in a very unique period of time, a time of change. Its probably true that every generation experiences changes, the difference is, this time it is happening really fast. The internet has been fast pacing this process of change. I stopped and thought about this, I do remember when there was no internet, and I am relatively young. Now, I can grab my ultra slim phone, take a picture email it to a website or blog and leave a voice recorded blog entry explaining the image details. That’s opportunity.
I think of change as excitement, it creates options and opportunities. I absolutely love to interact with passionate people, curious people, creative people. Passion is addictive, we, as humans feed off of it. “Hey they look like they are enjoying life, I want to.”
As we experience and enter further down this road of TAO - Transitional Addaptive Occupancy things will change even faster. I believe we will see an increase of passion in people. When I can share ideas and collaborate with a photographer in Poland my curiousity is sparked by passion with new and exciting ideas. This collaboration of passion is nearly limitless, now, as we have new opportunities to pursue passion and creat new ideas.
